When you’re looking forward to taking a holiday in Egypt, you’re certainly not short of choices. The country has so many to see that you’ll probably not want to limit yourself to just one city.
Hurghada—A Water Sport Paradise
With 250 hotels ranking from comfortable 3-star hotels up to 5-star accommodation, the main attraction of staying here is the activities in and on the warm waters. It has become an international centre for water sports, allowing visitors to take part in surfing, sailing and deep-sea fishing. The waters are also home to a huge variety of coral and fish, making it a dream spot for diving. If all that isn’t enough, Hurghada is home to some of the world’s finest underwater gardens.
Luxor—An Open-air Museum of Ancient History
For those with an interest in Egyptian history, Luxor is an excellent place to stay and is built upon the site of the ancient Egyptian city of Thebes. If you make this the base for your Egypt holiday, you’re basically staying in an open-air museum! The morden city of Luxor has the ruins of Karnak. Across the Nile lie many more monuments, temples and tombs including the Valley of Kings and the Queens. The Nile sailing is necessary for those with an interest in the country’s ancient history.
Cairo—The Capital City
Finally, of course, there’s Cairo. It’s definitely a starting point for most of Egypt holidaymakers. Cairo offers an excellent mix of culture, art, cooking and sightseeing chances. With the famous pyramids, various temples and some fascinating museum, Cairo is a fantastic choice if you can come to the city.

Some people think that success is only for those with talent or those who grow up in the right family, and others believe that success mostly comes down to luck. I’m not going to say luck, talent, and circumstances don’t come into play because they do. Some people are born into the right family while others are born with great intelligence, and that’s just the reality of how life is.
However, to succeed in life, one first needs to set a goal and then gradually make it more practical. And, in additional to that, in order to get really good at something, one needs to spend at least 10,000 hours studying and practising. To become great at certain things, it’ll require even more time, time that most people won't put in.
This is a big reason why many successful people advise you to do something you love. If you don’t enjoy what you do, it is going to feel like unbearable pain and will likely make you quit well before you ever become good at it.
When you see people exhibiting some great skills or having achieved great success, you know that they have put in a huge part of their life to get there at a huge cost. It’s sometimes easy to think they got lucky or they were born with some rare talent, but thinking that way does you no good, and there’s a huge chance that you’re wrong anyway.
Whatever you do , if you want to become great at it, you need to work day in and day out, almost to the point of addiction, and over a long period of time. If you’re not willing to put in the time and work, don’t expect to receive any rewards. Consistent, hard work won’t guarantee you the level of success you may want, but it will guarantee that you will become really good at whatever it is you put all that work into.
24. Paragraph 1 mainly talks about __________.
A. the reasons for success                 B. the meaning of success
C. the standards of success                D. the importance of success
25. In Paragraph 2, the underlined word “that” refers to __________.
A. being good at something               B. succeeding in life
C. putting in more time                   D. setting a practical goal
26. What can we infer from Paragraph 4?
A. Successful people like to show their great skills.
B. People sometimes succeed without luck or talent.
C. People need to achieve success at the cost of life.
D. It helps to think that luck or talent leads to success.
27. What is the main theme of the passage?
A. Having a goal is vital to success.
B. Being good is different from being great.
C. One cannot succeed without time and practice.
D. Luck, talent and family help to achieve success.

Research has shown that 85 percent of communication is nonverbal, so choosing what to wear to an interview is clearly an important part of your overall presentation. It won’t make up for weak answers, but it can communicate some positive things about your personality and what you might be like to work with.
    · Blue: You can’t go wrong with darker shades of blue, especially navy. Choosing from this powerful color will project an image of someone who is in control. From the interviewer’s point of view, the color blue suggests calm, stability, trust, truth, confidence and security. These are all great messages to send without saying a word.
    · Gray: After blue, gray is the second most popular color to wear for an interview. Like darker blue, it’s not a distracting color to the interviewer, which means they’ll be focused more on what you’re saying and how you’re saying it. Gray means sophistication(老成), so use it to your advantage.
    · Black: This is a commanding color and represents authority. Black also suggests excitement, so use it carefully when putting together your interview outfit. You may want to use it as an accent(着重色) —like in a scarf or tie, for instance—rather than as the primary color.
    · Red: This is an extremely powerful color. It’s so strong that you should only use it as an accent color. Reds are associated with energy, passion, desire, power and aggression. People think of intensity(紧张) and passion when they see the color red, so use it carefully or it could send the wrong message to the interviewer.
    · White: White shirts and blouses are always appropriate. It sends the message of simplicity, cleanliness, precision(精细) and goodness.
28. Why is it important to choose what to wear to an interview?
   A. Because it will make up for your weak answers.
   B. Because it suggests something about your personality.
   C. Because it will make you feel better.
   D. Because the interviewer judges a person by his appearance.
29. Based on the passage, which of the following are the messages from “Blue”?
   ①stability ②energy ③power ④confidence ⑤security
   A. ①②④ B. ②③④ C. ①④⑤ D. ②③⑤
30. If you want to leave an impression of being simple and clean, you should be in _____.
   A. gray B. red C. black D. white
31. From the passage we can infer that _______.
   A. job interviewees should think twice before wearing red clothes.
   B. the colors can send all the messages you want to convey.
   C. you can wear white clothes if you want to appear active.
   D. gray is the most popular color to wear for an interview.

Elephants scored a big win in Dohar, Qatar, on March 22. People from 175 countries met in the Middle Eastern country. They voted to continue a ban on the sale of ivory(象牙). Two African nations, Tanzania and Zambia, had asked to open up the ivory trade.
People feared that weakening a 21-year-old ban on the sale of ivory would encourage illegal hunting and hurt elephant populations. African elephants once numbered in the millions. Today, there are fewer than 500,000.
“People born in 100 years should be able to see an elephant,” said Noah Wekesa, Kenya’s minister of forest and wildlife. His country voted to keep the ban.
In the 1980s, as many as 1 million elephants were killed throughout Africa. Hunters killed the animals for their ivory tusks, which were used to make jewelry and other things. “The slaughter of elephants in Africa was terrible,” says Paul Todd of the International Fund for Animal Welfare. The group works to protect animals.
The ivory wars continued until 1989, when the United Nations voted to ban all trade in ivory. With trade controlled, demand for ivory fell. Governments punished hunters. Elephant populations began slowly to increase.
Tanzania and Zambia asked to allow ivory sales from government stockpiles(库存). Ivory is so expensive that it’s known as “white gold”. Tanzania holds almost 200,000 pounds of ivory, which is worth as much as $20 million. Zambia has 48,000 pounds of the white gold. The countries said they need the money the ivory would bring. They say it was taken from hunters or came from animals that died naturally.
Experts believe that trading ivory encourages illegal hunting. They felt happy about the decision which forbids the sales. “This is a rare victory for elephants,” said Jason Bell. He works to protect animals.
32. Tanzania and Zambia asked to open up the ivory trade to____________.
   A. sell elephants B. sell jewelry made from ivory
   C. sell their stocked ivory D. continue hunting for ivory
33.The underlined word “slaughter” in paragraph 4 most probably means___________.
   A. protecting B. killing C. increasing D. searching
34. Ivory is known as “white gold” because___________.
   A. it is as rare as white gold B. it has the same value as white gold
   C. it looks like white gold D. it is as valuable as gold
35. The text is mainly about____________.
   A. protecting endangered animals around the world

Dear Editor,
disagree with us. Our Relationship may be in trouble. Here are some tips to avoid worse situations.
To begin with, when we come across problems, don’t forget to ask them for advice. It’s better for us to communicate with our parents rather than quarrel with each other. Next, spend more time with our parents. Design some activities which the whole family can participate in, such as going for a trip. Last but not least, talk about our school life frequently so that they can know more about us.
I believe as long as we respect and understand our parents, we will get along well with them.

M: Celia, why have you written another romantic novel?

W: John, I know that you’re interested in all thing to do with the environment. Can you tell us something about it?
M: Oh, yes, I could think of one or two things that I’ve tried to do over the last couple of years. I think it’s been a couple of years since I got my bicycle out of the garage, and now I use it as much as possible. I use my car less. Last year I drove 10000 miles, and this year I’m going to do about 10% fewer miles.
W: Ok. Now we’re going to talk about food. I know you seldom eat meat. Is this part of “being green”, or something totally different?
M: Er…yes and no. Looking after animals, I think, is as important as looking after the environment. I mean, they’re part of it. So I prefer not to kill animals to eat them.
W: Mm. I think it’s true that people all over the world are becoming more aware of the need to look after the planet. Thank you very much.
(Text 10)
M: Now, I’d like to tell you about my bad-weather story the other day. My wife and i8 were panning to do something unusual for out wedding anniversary. the weather was really nice that day, sunny and warm, so my wife and I hired a boat and went off to an island where we were going to spend the day swimming and sunbathing . we took the boat out to the island,, and we were having so much fun that we didn’t notice that a storm was approaching until it started to get really windy. We got back into the boat, but the engine couldn’t start. Now, all the time, the wind was getting stronger, and the weather became really cloudy and then dark. Out poor little boat was being driven toward some rocks. We were starting to get really scared. We thought we might be stuck in the island. It was quite dangerous in such weather. We might die. Then we saw a tiny boat going past the island, so we started to wave and shout. And the local fishermen in the boat saw that we were in trouble and they threw us a line. So we tied it to the front of our bat, and they managed to pull us, very slowly back to the mainland. Luckily, we were saved.
