We see this scene all the time. A group of people stand on a street corner, waiting for the traffic light to change. Many look down at their smart phones instead of looking at the traffic light. One of them might step into traffic and could get hit by a car.
Now Bodegraven-Reeuwijk, a Dutch town, plans to fix the problem. The plan is to add traffic lights on the ground. When walkers are looking down they might see them. Strips (条状) of lights were put into the ground. They use LED lights, in which electricity moves through a crystal (水晶). As the electricity moves, light is on. The “light lines” change the color at exactly the same time as the traffic lights above them.
People look down when they look at their phones. They might notice the lights in the ground and then they will know the traffic light has changed color. Schools in Bodegraven-Reeuwijk near the light lines are excited because they are hoping the light lines will make students safer.
In the U.S., “distracted walking” is a serious problem. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 5376 people were killed by cars while walking in the U.S. in 2015. The year before, 4884 died this way.
Pamela Lampitt is a lawmaker in New Jersey. Last year, she introduced a bill(议案) about walking and using smartphones. She wants to protect people from getting hurt. The bill would have made it illegal to walk and text at the same time. She says walkers who look down at their phones cause a danger to themselves and drivers on the road.
25.What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A.People often break traffic rules.B.The cases of traffic accidents are increasing.C.Using smartphones in the street is dangerous.D.Walkers should watch out when crossing the street.
26.What do we know about “light lines”?
A.They can replace traffic lights.B.They are powered by solar energy.C.They are made of crystals that can shine.D.They change their color based on traffic lights.
27.What do schools in Bodegraven-Reeuwijk think of “light lines”?
A.They are safe.B.They are useful.C.They are dangerous.D.They are interesting.

Not only does the use of plastic water bottles hurt your wallet, but it also causes pollution, wastes energy, and surprisingly wastes water. Only 23% of the plastic in America ends up in recycling bins, meaning over $1 billion worth of plastic is treated as rubbish a year. Recently, Skipping Rocks Lab has invented a kind of water bottle called Ooho.
It’s a kind of convenient, clear water bottle that can either be drunk or eaten. To drink it, you can either get rid of the membrane(薄膜) or tear a hole in the membrane with your teeth to pour the water into your mouth. It’s completely insipid so you needn’t worry about any taste.
It aims for large outdoor events where tons of plastic bottles are used and frequently left behind as litter. Too much plastic is sure to do harm to the environment, which could account for the purpose of such a new invention.
The team has been working for the past two years to develop the technology and materials that are needed to produce Ooho. The price for an only bubble (泡状物) or a unit of bubbles hasn’t been decided yet, but it costs about two cents to create a unit, which is cheaper than plastic bottles. The team has also been selling Ooho water bottles in London for the past six months.
Ooho is catching many people’s attention and has raised over $1 million in only three days. It’s mostly being sold at events at the moment to interest the buyers while the production machine is getting up and running. It’s quickly making a rise, so keeping an eye out for these bottles of the future.
28.How is most plastic in America dealt with?
A.It is wasted by people.B.It is reused as new energy.C.It is buried under the ground.D.It is applied to new technology.
29.What does the underlined world “insipid” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Sweet. B.Delicious. C.Tasteless .D.Interesting.
30.What can we infer about the Ooho?
A.It plans to be sold at a very low price.B.It has some advantages over plastic bottles.C.It has taken the place of plastic bottles in London.D.Proper materials of making Ooho are hard to find.
31.What’s the author’s attitude towards Ooho’s future?
A.Doubtful. B.Uninterested C.Positive. D.Worried.

I sat in my seat as my new grade six classmates found theirs. In the front of the class stood our new math teacher, watching us. “Come on .We don’t have all day. Get settled please.”
    The bell rang.
“OK. Welcome to a new school year. I’m Mr. Stevens and I’m sure I’ll learn all your names in no time.” He walked around the class handing out math books. When it was done, he returned to the front of the class and looked at us. We stared back. “What are you waiting for? Get started?” he said.
We looked at him----confused. Wasn’t he going to teach us?
“Is there something wrong with your ears? You’re not all deaf, are you?”
One brave boy at the back of the class asked what we all wanted to know. “Mr. Stevens, aren’t you going to teach us?”
“Rubbish!” Mr. Stevens replied, “You’re smart kids. Open your books and get down to it. If you have any trouble or any questions, raise your hand, and I’ll come to help you.”
My friend Paul and I exchanged glances and opened our books to the first chapter. A competition began. Paul and I spent all our free time at home working through the lessons. Mr. Stevens, keeping his words, helped anyone who was stuck in a problem. We worked like dogs and finished two and one half math books that first year . It was a turning point in my life. Mr. Stevens made me realize I was good at math and also able to reach the top of any class I attended.
Monty Python’s Flying Circus was a popular television show back then. The actors brought the best British humour(幽默)into our Canadian lives. Mr. Stevens would often act out one of their skits in front of the class. Some thought he was strange, and I guess he was, but he knew how to make a math lesson interesting.
32.What was the unique style of Mr. Stevens teaching, according to the author?
A.He was strict with the students.B.He treated each student equally.C.He taught the students to learn on their own.D.He brought English humor into class
33.Why did the author believe Mr. Stevens changed his life?
A.Because he came to like school from then on.B.Because he realized he could be a top student.C.Because he began to show interest in math.D.Because he changed his attitude toward life.
34.What’s the author’s attitude toward Mr. Stevens?
A.Respectful B.Doubtful C.Indifferent D.Disappointed
35.The underlined word “skits” in the last paragraph probably means______.
A.important lessons B.wild animals C.famous actors D.funny performances

I'm glad to know that you are interested in Chinese Bridge Contest and want to learn more about the Chinese language and culture. I’d like to offer you some proposals, which I think can be of benefit to your Chinese study.
To learn the Chinese language and culture well, first of all,you have to read some classical literature, which will broaden your horizon. Besides, watching TV programs and reading newspapers are also good ways of language learning. Last but not least, you are supposed to make some Chinese friends with whom you can communicate frequently. Only by doing so can you achieve your goal better.
I sincerely hope my suggestions will be good for your Chinese study and that you will make greater progress in it.
Yours,
Li Hua
