There’s a good chance that something you've bought online has been in the hands of a “ picker” first. These are the workers in warehouses(仓库)who pick, pack and ship all those things we’re ordering.
At Amazon and other companies, they’re working side by side with robots. Experts say while the robots are replacing some human workers, the machines aren't quite ready to take over completely.
When a robot finds its storage unit, it slides underneath, lifts it up and then delivers it to a worker —they’re called pickers. On a recent day, the computer told a picker to grab what looked like a fantasy board (棋盘)game. The picker found it, scanned it and placed it on the conveyor(传输机)belt.
“In a traditional fulfillment center where the associate would walk to the different items , it can take hours to fulfill a customer order. ”Robinson says.
Now, with the help of robots, that task takes minutes and fewer humans.
So is this a sign we're entering a new industrial revolution?
“It’s definitely going to take over a lot of jobs. ” says Karen Myers, a scientist at SRI, one of Silicon Valley's oldest research centers.
At the same time, she says, we’re running against the limits of technology. Take “the picker”at the Amazon fulfillment center. Myers says those skills are proving to be uniquely human.
“Our fingers are incredibly agileand the current generation of robotic operators, they’re getting much, much better,” she says. “But they're just not quite there yet. ”
There’s also therobot’s brain.
Remember that board game the Amazon worker was looking for? She could barely see the box filled into the storage bin — but she could tell it was a board game. Robots can’t do that.
Technologists say that, increasingly, humans will work side by side with robots instead of robots working alone.
Amazon says robots and humans enabled the Tracy warehouse to fulfill customer orders faster. That means more customers and more human workers.
24. A picker does some tasks except	.
A. picking goods B. packing goods
C. spotting goods D. producing goods
25. With the help of robots, some tasks are	.
A. more difficult B. less straight C. more efficient D. less profitable
26. Compared with robots, which word can replace the underlined word in paragraph 9 to describe human?
A. flexible B. artificial C. powerful D. energetic
27. What is the best title for the text?
A. Robots replacing humans completely.	B. Robots and humans working side by	side.
C. The futureof robots. D.The advantages of shopping online.

It was reported last week that developers could take photos from Apple mobile and Google Android devices without the phone owners knowing that the images were being taken. In Apple’s case, developers can also obtain the location information for each photo.
Senator(参议员) Charles Schumer said in a telephone interview that his office had spoken with officials at both Apple and Google on Monday.
“We asked them if they could find a way on their own to prevent Apple from having access to private information,” Mr. Schumer said. “They were friendly and open to the idea that this ought to be changed.”
On Sunday, Mr. Schumer said that he planned to send a letter to the Federal Trade Commission asking the agency to investigate Apple and Google after the privacy concerns came to light. Claudia Bourne Farrell, an F.T.C. spokeswoman, said the agency had received the letter but she could not comment further.
“It worries people to think that one’s personal photos, address book, and who knows what else can be obtained and even posted online without permission,” Mr. Schumer wrote in his letter to the F.T.C. “If the technology exists to open the door to this kind of privacy invasion, then surely technology exists to close it, and that’s exactly what must happen.”
Mr. Schumer said if Apple and Google could not come to an agreement to fix the problem, then he would be forced to take the issue further.
He said other companies had been willing to work with his office to fix issues. “I’m optimistic that we can get this changed without any regulation,” he said. “If it’s not changed, then we’ll turn to the F.T.C., and if that doesn’t work then we’ll consider legislative(法制的)approach.”
The F.T.C. has warned companies to try to be more vigilant(警醒的) in their efforts to protect consumers when it comes to privacy.
. The senator’s office spoke with officials at both Apple and Google___________.
A. to urge them not to invade consumers’ privacy
B. to discuss whether it is illegal to have access to private information
C. to stop them from developing the technology of taking photos
D. to keep them from obtaining the location information for each photo

A. Privacy invasion from Apple has existed for a long time.

34. Mr. Schumer’s letter to the F.T.C. mainly shows that the technology to open the door to privacy invasion___________.
A. causes privacy invasion to happen frequently.
B. can be used if permitted.

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Daily to-do lists can help you get focused and organized. Follow these tips to create a good to-do list.
Notice the order.
It may help you to develop some sort of system for your to-do list. 36 you can even use a number system and mark them from 1 to 5. Items that are marked 1 might be done later, while the 5s are tasks you should deal with first.
Reduce the list.
37 . If you have 15 minutes to spare, find something on the list that you can complete in that time period. You may think that 15 minutes is not enough to do something, but several 15 minutes add up to something huge.
Add in something fun.
Yourto-do list is no doubt full of things you may not like. That’s why adding in fun activities and tasks should also be important. A fun item doesn’t feel like work. It may even feel like a break. 38 .
Don’t list too much.
It;s important not to overwhelm yourself. 39 . If there’s too much on your plate or you have to work too fast, you can’t possibly enjoy yourself and you’ll only end up being frustrated and overwhelmed. 40 .
Your list needs to be organized in a way that makes you feel comfortable. There are many choices nowadays. However, the old-fashioned pen and paper method may work best for you. You can also use the Internet or even your cell phone to keep your list organized.
Keep it organized.
Avoid too much stress.
Write it the night before.
Certainly every item on the list can’t be equally important.
You need to complete talks or part of tasks one step at a time.
When you return to the less interesting items, you’ll be more active to get them done.
Everything that goes on your to-do list should be something important that you need to do.

Nowadays, many teenagers spend too many time on computers. The number of students who come to school in the morning are already completely exhausting.
The cause of this is staying late at night playing computer games and chat with their friends online. Most of them don’t realize just how damaging to their healthy this is, let alone the effect it has on their grades.
I recently read an article about the damage that playing computer games are doing to kids. The article claimed for that lots of the games kids play are extremely harmful. It said that at best they are turning teens into dull people which have no social life and at worst into potential killer!

M: I’m going running. I’m practising for a competition next month.
Text 2
W: I hear the new restaurant on Grant Street is pretty good.
M: I don’t think so. Its service is slow. Yeah, the atmosphere is wonderful. But what’s important to you, good food or nice atmosphere? I’ll never go there again.
Text 3
W: I like this dress very much, but its colour...
M: You know, Madam, the bright yellow lights in the shop make things a little different here. That’s why the blue dress appears green.
Text 4
M: Ticket! Where is my train ticket? Have you seen it, Mum?
W: I saw it in the bathroom while I did cleaning there.
M: The bathroom? So strange... Oh, you’re right. Got it.
Text 5
W: I hope you can come to the party on Saturday.
M: I didn’t know I was invited.
W: Sure you are! Everyone on the winning team was invited.
Text 6
W: Have you seen the film Oliver Twist, which was on since last Saturday?
M: Yes, I went last Sunday. How about you?
W: I saw it on Monday. Not bad, is it?
M: Mm, it made me want to read the novel again.
W:Yeah, it really brought the world of the novel to me.
Text 7
W: George! It’s so lovely to see you again! It must be ages since we last met.
M: Oh, I suppose it is. But weren’t you at Michael’s birthday party on August 20th last year?
W: No. I wasn’t. I got the flu at the last minute and I went to the hospital instead. I think the last time I saw you was three years ago at Christmas, when we all had dinner together in that Indian restaurant.
M: No, surely we’ve met since then...Wait a minute... It was at Peter’s place, when he and Jenny got married.
W: Yes, of course it was! It was a wonderful wedding.

M: Lucy, how can you eat so much chocolate and still stay slim and fit?
W: Simple. I exercise a lot.
M: Really? I want to, too, but I don’t know what sports to do since we don’t have PE lessons.
W: That’s true, but there are so many sports teams and sports clubs you can join.
M: I guess so. Well, I really like basketball.
W: We can go along together. The basketball club meets every Tuesday evening.
M: I like to exercise when I want. I don’t like to follow a schedule all the time.W: Then you could join the gym.
M: Oh, that sounds good. What equipment do they have?
W: There are all kinds of machines, like the running machines and exercise bikes.
M:Sounds great. Let’s go!
W: Ok.
Text 9
W: Hello, Mike. It’s Carrion here. I’ve just been reading a paper and I find a job advertised on it will be perfect for you.
M: Oh, what’s the job?
W: They want a marketing manager. Isn’t that the kind of thing you’re looking for?
M: Yes. Does it say what the job involves?
W: The main thing seems to be that you’ll be in charge of sales planning.
M: well, what sort of people are they looking for? I suppose they want me to have an MBA.
W: There’s nothing about that. But it does say that they’re looking for someone who can speak foreign languages. Well, that’s OK for you because you’ve lived abroad and you can speak German, don’t you?
M: Yes, and Spanish, too. When do the applications have to be completed?
W: The3rd of July is the closing date. So you have exactly a month to complete. Do you want me to e-mail you the advert so you can see it yourself?
M: Yes. That’ll be great.
W: OK. I’ll do that now.
Text 10
M: Hi there everyone. I hope Ron covered everything at the meeting at lunchtime. Just in case you’re not sure, I’ll give you details about the trip today and about what you’ll be doing tomorrow. Depending on traffic, this journey should take about 6 hours, so we’ll be in Newcastle at 8 o’clock this evening. There’ll be dinner as soon as we get there. The camp manager normally makes us excellent food. There are two people to a tent, and please make sure you get the right one! Erm, the camp manager’s got a list of which tent you will be in, so don’t worry. Tomorrow you have to be up and out at 7:30 for breakfast. You’ll start to prepare for the music festival at 10:00 a.m. We’ll need at least 3 hours’ work to get things ready. The festival opens at one in the afternoon, and you’ll get a chance to go and see some of the bands play---please let me know when you want your 2 hours off. Anyway, I hope we can have a good trip, and I’m sure the festival is going to be wonderful.
