第部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题:每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
Americans like to travel on vacations. Today more and more travelers in the United States are spending nights at small houses or inns instead of hotels. They get a room for the night and the breakfast for the next morning.
Rooms for the night in private homes with breakfast have been popular with travelers in Europe for many years. In the past five to ten years, these bed-and-breakfast places have become popular in the United States. Many of these America’s bed-and-breakfast inns are old historic buildings. Some bed-and-breakfast inns have only a few rooms. Others are much larger. Some inns do not provide telephones or televisions in the rooms while others do.
Staying at a bed-and-breakfast inn is much different from staying at a hotel. Usually the cost is much less. Staying at an inn is almost like visiting someone’s home. The owners are glad to tell about the area and the interesting places to visit. Many vacationists say they enjoy the chance to meet local families.
21. Where do more and more travelers in the USA like spending nights? ________.
A. At hotels B. In the open air C. In their cars D. At small houses or inns
22. How many years have the bed-and-breakfast places been popular in the USA?________.
A. For five years B. For one year C. For five to ten years D. For ten years
23. American travelers like staying at bed-and-breakfast inns because ________.
A. these inns are cheap B. these inns are small
  C. they can meet and talk with the local people D. both A and C

Cold weather can be hard on pets, just like it can be hard on people. Sometimes owners forget that their cats are just as used to the warm shelter (住所) as they are. Some owners will leave their animals outside for a long period of time, thinking that all animals are used to living outdoors. This can put their pets in danger of serious illness. There are things you can do to keep your animal warm and safe.
Keep your pets inside as much as you can when the weather is bad. If you have to take them out, stay outside with them. When you’re cold enough to go inside, they probably are too. If you must leave them outside for a long time, make sure they have a warm, solid shelter against the wind, thick bedding, and plenty of non-frozen water.
If left alone outside, dogs and cats can be very smart in their search for warm shelter. They can dig into snow banks or hide somewhere. Watch them closely when they are left outdoors, and provide them with shelter of good quality. Keep an eye on your pet’s water. Sometimes owners don’t realize that a water bowl has frozen and their pet can’t get anything to drink. Animals that don’t have clean and unfrozen water may drink dirty water outside, which may contain something unhealthy for them.
24. What do we learn about pets from Paragraph 1? ________.
A. They are often forgotten by their owners B. They like to stay in warm places
C. They build their won shelters D. They are used to living outdoors
25. Why are pet owners asked to stay with their pets when they are out in cold weather?_______.
A. To help them find shelters B. To keep them company
C. To know when to bring them inside D. To keep them from eating bad food
26. If pets are left on their own outdoors in cold weather, they may ________.
A. get lost in the wild B. run short of clean water
C. dig deep holes for fun D. make the water in the bowl dirty
27. What is the purpose of this text? ________.
A. To give practical advice B. To solve an argument
C. To tell an interesting story D. To present a research result
C
Once when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for the circus (马戏表演). Finally there was only one family between us and the ticket counter. This family made a big impression on me. There were eight children, all probably under the age of 12. You could tell they didn’t have a lot of money. Their clothes were not expensive, but they were clean. The children were well-behaved, all of them standing in line, two-by-two behind their parents. The children were excitedly talking about the clowns, elephants and other acts they would see that night. One could sense they had never been to the circus before.
The father and the mother were ahead standing, proud as they could be.
The ticket lady asked the father how many tickets he wanted. He proudly responded, “Please let me buy eight children’s tickets and two adult tickets.”
The ticket lady told him the price.
The man’s wife lowered her head and there was no longer a smile on the man’s face.
The father leaned a little closer and quietly asked, “How much did you say?
The ticket lady again told him the price.
The man obviously didn’t have enough money. How could he turn around and tell his eight kids that he didn’t have enough money to take them to the circus.
Seeing what was going on, my dad put his hand into his pocket, pulled out a $20 bill and dropped it on the ground. (We were not rich in any sense of the world!) My father reached down, picked up the bill, tapped the man on the shoulder and said, “Excuse me, sir, this fell out of your pocket.” The man knew what was going on. He looked straight into my dad’s eyes, took my dad’s hand in both of his and pressed tightly onto the bill, and with his lips trembling and tears streaming down his cheeks, he replied, “Thank you, thank you , Sir. This really means a lot to me and my family.”
My father and I went back to our car and drove home. We didn’t go to the circus that night, but we didn’t go without.
Why did the smile on the man’s face disappear after he spoke with the ticket lady? ________.
A. He had lost his money
B. His children were noisy
C. The tickets were sold out
D. The tickets were too expensive
We can infer from the text that the writer’s father didn’t give the money to the father directly because ________.
he didn’t want to hurt the man’s pride and respect
he wanted to make the father feel ashamed
he was not very willing to help the man
he wanted to pretend to be very wealthy
We can conclude from the last sentence of the story that ________.
they had never gone to the circus ever since
they felt it a pity that they didn’t go to the circus
they felt they would be scolded for their behavior
they didn’t feel bad though they didn’t go to the circus
31. What’s the best title of the text? ________.
A. A pity of mine B. Something bad as a child
C. A $20 bill D. Relationship among people
D
Have you read this before? 10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is decided by how you react. That is the 90/10 Principle. You really have no control over 10% of what happens to us, but you determine the other 90%.
Let’s use an example. You are eating breakfast with your family. Your daughter knocks over a cup of coffee onto your business shirt. You severely scold your daughter and she breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you blame your wife for placing the cup too close to the edge of the table. A short verbal battle follows. You storm upstairs and change your shirt.
Back downstairs, you find your daughter has been too busy crying to finish breakfast and she misses the bus. You rush to the car and drive your daughter to school. After a 15-minute delay and throwing $60 traffic fine away, you arrive at the school and your daughter runs into the building without saying goodbye.
After arriving at the office 20 minutes late, you find you forgot your briefcase. Your day has started terrible. As it continues, it seems to get worse and worse. You look forward to coming home, yet when you arrive home, you find a small wedge in your relationship with your wife and daughter.
Why did you have a bad day? Did the coffee cause it? Did your daughter cause it?
Here is what could have and should have happened.
Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry. You gently say, “It’s ok honey, you just need, to be more careful next time”. Grabbing a towel you rush upstairs. After grabbing a new shirt and your briefcase, you come down in time to look through the window and see your child getting on the bus. She turns and waves. You arrive 5 minutes early and cheerfully greet the staff. Your boss comments on how good the day you are having.
Notice the difference? Two different scenarios(剧情). Both started the same. Both ended different.
32. From the text, what happens after the coffee incident? ________.
A. The couple have an argument B. The mother gets to work late
C. The father has a traffic accident D. The daughter finishes breakfast soon
33. The author use the example ________.
A. to compare different attitudes B. to prove the 90/10 principle
C. to give advice on self-control D. to show the importance of harmony
34. The underlined word “wedge” in Paragraph 4 can probably be replaced by ________.
A. improvement	B. advantage C. disadvantage D. wound
35. According to the text, ________ leads to the different endings.
A. your coffee B. your family C. your reaction D. your experience

’s not as hard as you might think. 36
Be around confident people. Being around confident people makes you feel good. The other person’s enthusiasm makes all the conversation participants feel confident and comfortable.
37 If it’s someone who you work with or go to school with, look at the department website, or see if the person is on any special networks before talking to him for the first time. The information you get can be a good starting point for conversations.
Ask questions. What do they like to do? What sort of things have they done in their lives? What is happening to them now? What did they do yesterday or last weekend? 38 However, try to space out your questions or they’ll feel like you are interrogating(审问) them, which is very bad and closes off friendships.
Listen. 39 Make movements to indicate that you are still listening. If you listen well, the other person’s statements will suggest questions for you to ask. Allow the other person to do most of the talking. They will often not realize that it was they who did most of the talking, and you get credit for being a good conversationalist.
Know when to end the conversation. Even the best conversations will eventually run out of steam or be ended by interruption. Smile if you are leaving, tell them it was nice to talk to them, and say goodbye. 40
A. Listen carefully to what is being said.
B. Ending on a positive note will leave a good impression.
C. Ask as many questions as you can think of, including their age, income and marriage.
D. With some patience and these steps, you can learn to relax and enjoy a great conversation.
E. Find out about the person you will be talking to before you actually talk to him, if you can.
F. Take a special course on making conversations so that you can communicate with others better.
G. Identify things about them that you might be interested in hearing about, and politely ask questions.

第二节 书面表达
One possible version:
Dear Tom,
I’m sorry to hear that you are addicted to King of Glory. As we know, spending too much time and energy on games is harmful to our health and our eyes. If you lose yourself in it, you may become separated from the real world and ignore the beauty and love in life.
In my opinion, you can try to distract your attention, for example, you can play basketball or other sports with your friends, which can not only help you keep healthy, but strengthen your friendship. Besides, you can also communicate with your parents and friends, sharing your happiness and sorrow with them. Last but not least, you can read some interesting books to expand your knowledge in your spare time.
Best wishes
Yours,
Li Hua
